PARLIAMENTARY PETITION ON THE LEGAL RECONGITION AND PROTECTION OF DIGITAL BODA RIDERS
Transport Workers Union Kenya

The National Assembly adoption of the Report by the Departmental committee on Transport and Infrastructure on the Legal recognition and Protection of E hailing motorcycle riders and delivery personnel is a monumental step in the fight for rights and decent work in the platform economy.

TAWU takes this opportunity to congratulate its affiliate – The Digital Boda Drivers and Delivery Association of Kenya for the successful campaign. Through the Africa region rider’s network supported by the International Transport Workers Federation and the Freidrich Ebert Stiftung, TAWU will continue to support the DBDDAK to ensure we legislate minimum standards and benefits for transportation platform workers as it has been implemented elsewhere like Australia.

This petition, jointly developed by TAWU  and the DBDDAK is an illustration of the critical role that trade unions play in safeguarding workers’ rights in the platform economy, even as the International Labour Organisation commences the development of International Labour Standards on decent work in the platform economy.
